Do you know where are you at now, and what you require to shift gears?
When life throws curve balls at you, are we all equiped with the appropriate tools and information to navigate our way through that with ease? Or is it a constant struggle, being faced with yet another metaphorical egg your face? After tripping over several times in my own life, I'm getting better with navigating my way through this life with less damage to myself and others, creating more lightness in my life as I use the tools I've gathered along the way. I'm still learning and gathering more intel, as new hurdles come up! After going through a few trips, I began to notice familiar phases of this 'getting through life' business.
From my own experience and observations of clients stories, the phases we can experience on varying levels of intensity are:
So whether that's you, a client or a friend that is going through this, I find it useful to know where one is at, so we can communicate accordingly and pull out the appropriate tools for the occasion.
There is no phase to achieve or stay at, as life will tend to steer us into another experience to give you feedback on how ya doing. I've experienced cycling through all 4 phases in 1 day so you can have mini cycles as well as larger cycles through these life phases. For me it's about refining one SELF, letting go of what no longer serves, and being adept at navigating your way through obstacles and any monsters that may appear on your path.
Life Alchemy is about creating and generating the life you truly desire. Putting you back in the drivers seat of your life. So in this article I'd like to share those different phases I've experienced and observed, and what one can be and do in those phases.
Let's look at WELLNESS - aka 'first aid' required:
These are individuals that are experiencing one or many of the following: illness, physical dis-ease, stress, hurt, anxiety, trauma, chaos, overwhelm, tiredness, confusion, pain or depression.
These people want to be nurtured and looked after. The are feeling low mood wise and/or energy wise. Sometimes these people just want a hug and be held.
They will not be in the mood to hear 'just fake it till you make it', or 'just be happy', and will probably want to punch you in the face if you suggest 'hey, chin up, life is not that bad' or 'you create your own reality'
These people will be looking for a sense of wellness in their life, and require input from specialists, medical experts, wellness practitioners, counsellors, healers, or therapists etc.
They will benefit greatly from support from others and are perhaps learning how to receive and learning how to put themselves first.
What can you be or do here?
This SELF AWARENESS phase is where the individual is ready to receive the awareness of what their choices have been creating in their life thus far. The individual feels ready to have a look at self and the role they had played a part in the past & in current situations.
They are willing to have self-responsibility of their life and perhaps looking at healing deeper ingrained unhealthy patterns.
In this phase, people are ready to try out some tools for themselves, so they can feel empowered to make inspired choices to help them come unstuck. They may be still triggered and still require 'first-aid' as they get used to self-development and self-awareness.
They may open up to vulnerability and be able to share with others in a group setting. They are ready to attend classes, courses, retreats to help them better understand themselves and others.
What can I be or do here?
This phase is where individuals are ready to take leadership and ownership for their choices in life.
They are more aware of their awareness. They are aware of the energy signals they are sending out. They are keen to access more tools to upkeep their mental hygiene.
They are ready to go deeper with their healing journey and ready to face what was previously too difficult or too painful to look at before.
They are ready to explore what else is possible in the world and dare to go beyond a little bit further outside their comfort zone. They may even want to share their experience and learnings with others or up level their business in some way.
Being aware of ones choices and coming out of the judgement of those choices allows for conscious-creation or 'conscious-choicing'.
What can I be or do here?
Perhaps you are a parent, a teacher, a healer, an activist, a painter, a musician, a politician and so on. There are many roles to play and we can have multiple roles with many different actors in our play.
Most people on the planet are 'In-story' and that's okay, that is part of the game of life. Except for when it's not working for you anymore! When you are 'in story', the other phases above can apply to this phase too. One can be:
- 'in-story' and require wellness, or
- 'in-story' and self awareness, or
- 'in-story' and conscious creation

There is a 'humungo' (a large) amount of tools out there about relaxation, de-stressing, meditating, energy, breathing, moving, not-moving, protecting, not protecting...it can be quite overwhelming especially if you feel like you are new to all of this 'energy stuff'
So in this blog we come back to our breath; where our life began! (according to some traditions)
'Breathe is the essence of life; it is sacred'
Many spiritual traditions are aware of this, and their action word for breath incorporates this awareness of the life energy in the breath. This energy is called 'prana' in the Hindu traditions, or 'Chi' in Chinese or 'Ki' in Japanese. This energy goes by many different names in the various cultures, countries and paths of consciousness on our planet. Yet it is the same. It is the energy of life - the energy of the breath.
'As you breathe in, your body takes on a charge of this energy. As you hold your breath your body builds this energy charge. As you release your breath, your body releases this charge of energy. This is a simplification of the science of breath, called 'pranayama' in the Hindu tradition. Yet, in its simplicity, there is much truth in the above statements about breath, for when we focus our awareness on the power of breath, we can regulate and change our energetic bodies.' Below are several different breathing techniques you can try. Explore which method resonates with you. Perhaps try a technique for a week or so, and a different one another week. It may seem strange that there is such a thing as 'breathing exercises' as breathing is a given. We are all doing it aren't we? Well some athlete's may tell you otherwise as that vital force can change their performance. So what about our everyday life? Can a few breathing techniques change the way we perform in life? It has mine. By becoming more conscious of our in breath and out breath can really tell us how well we are in our inner world. Are we short of breath with fear of fully take life in and allowing it to flow out? Are you waiting with bated breath for something to happen in our lives. Do you breath a sigh of relief when you finally get some time to yourself?
The breath not only brings essential life, but its rhythm is used to calm and focus the mind - watching the in and out flow of the breath is the basis of most traditional forms of meditation. You can transform how you feel simply by changing your breathing pattern.
Technique 1: Observe your breath
- Sitting or lying comfortably, close your eyes
- Just watch/observe your breath for a few moments
- Breathe into the upper part of your chest - notice what you notice
- Breath into the middle of your chest - just notice what you notice
- Breath into your belly - notice what you notice
You may find that the 'belly' breath tends require longer and fuller breaths which means that the diaphragm has become more relaxed. Feel your belly rising and falling with each breath in and out and notice how your senses become calmer and quieter. If it helps, place your hands on your belly and feel the breath that way.
Technique 2: Count In & Out
- Take in breath for 4 seconds (or 8 seconds)
- Pause for 4 seconds (or 8 seconds)
- Take out breath for 4 seconds (or 8 seconds)
- Take in breath 4 seconds
- Pause for 8 seconds
- Take out breath for 4 seconds
Technique 3: Nose & mouth variations (Sufi 5 element breath technique)
Relax, breathing your natural breath. As you do the breath pattern for each element in turn, attune with the cosmic element and experience its qualities within you. Experience the purification of your being on all levels: physical, mental, heart, soul, spirit. 5 breaths for each element, or longer.
Earth: Inhale nose, exhale nose
Qualities: nurturing, solidity.
Water: Inhale nose, exhale mouth
Qualities: fluidity, purifying, giving life.
Fire: Inhale mouth, exhale nose.
Qualities: enthusiasm, transmutation.
Air: Inhale and exhale mouth
Qualities: freedom, releasing from constructs, cosmic identity.
Ether: Very fine breath inhaling and exhaling through the nose
Qualities: ‘emotion of the soul’. Peace. Unity.
Technique 4: Alternate Nostril Breathing
There are variations to this technique so find the one that is suitable for you. This one is my personal favourite. If you start to feel light-headed or spacey at all, then stop the practice and return to it at a later time.
Make yourself comfortable and be in a relaxed seated position.
- Place your right thumb on the right nostril
- Gently breath in for x counts through the left nostril
- Place your ring finger on the left nostril and PAUSE for a moment (both nostrils will be closed)
- Release your right thumb and breath out for x counts through the right nostril
- Gently breath in for x counts through the right nostril
- Place your thumb on the right nostril and PAUSE for a moment (both nostrils will be closed)
- Release your ring finger and breath out for x counts through the the left nostril
This is one round
Repeat to as many rounds as you feel is appropriate e.g. 9 rounds or more or less
X counts is the number you feel is appropriate for you. Some people keep the count of the breath in as the breath out. e.g.
4 counts breath in; 4 counts breath out or
8 counts breath in; 8 counts breath out etc
Some people like to double count of the breath out e.g.
4 counts breath in; 8 counts breath out or
8 counts breath in; 16 counts breath out or
16 counts breath in; 32 counts breath out.
Aqua Gold Copper Alchemy™
I'm really loving the alchemy crystal bowls from Crystal Tones and this was one of the first ones I bought from fellow sound healer Annie (Higher Realms) who is also a distributor for Crystal Tones in NZ. It's probably a good thing she only brings a few in at a time to save creating a dent in my bank balance as they are delicious to play but also classed as the 'Rolls Royce' of the crystal bowls out there the $price tag goes along with that too.
They claim that they have "a unique patented manufacturing process which is available ONLY with their bowls". They certainly do sound different to other crystal bowls I have in my collection as you only have to tap it gently and it rings out what seems like forever. This particular one wanted to come home with me after Annie helpfully guided me through the new imports at that time.
This alchemy bowl is made out of aqua infused with gold and copper. It's also known as the 'consciousness conductor' due to its properties and that it certainly seems to be. Most associated the aqua with the throat chakra and communication, gold with alchemy and transformation and copper with conduction. So it seemed a perfect companion for me with the work I do with my voice. Annie only told me this information after I selected the bowl intuitively.
This alchemy bowl has been in many of my sound baths as well as one to one sessions. I sometimes tone with it, sing with it and sometimes not. I sense different light beings and codes come through when it's played on it's own.
For several clients I noticed that it wanted to be placed in the upper left side of the client when they were laying down and perceived a golden thread connection being created and/or strengthened. This happened for a few months, then it changed again.
It's interesting collaborating with all the sound instruments I have, whether it singing on it's own or together it seems to be perfect for that moment for that person or persons. Sometimes it does not want to be played. They certainly let you know when they are ready to move on. And this one...well there's a lot more play to be had together!
